Description | Primary Purpose:
Work with school faculty and staff, students, parents, and community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program at school assigned. Counsel students to fully develop each student’s academic, career, personal, and social abilities and address the needs of each population of students assigned.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in guidance counseling
Valid Texas counseling certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Guidance
- Implement comprehensive guidance and counseling program consistent with district’s guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs including the Early College High School Program.
- Guide individuals and groups of student to develop four-year educational plans and career awareness
- Prepare and promote a college and career readiness culture
Counseling
- Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns.
Consultation
- Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
- Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students.
- Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources.
- Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services.
Assessment
- Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
- Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment.
Early College High School Responsibilities
- Understand the criteria and process for dual credit enrollment, alignment of school and college courses as well as how to transcript credits
- Understand the TSI assessment, provide support for students, to include test taking strategies and share information with teachers
- Clearly understand the degree plans at Del Mar College, 4-year institutions, demand occupations, projected earnings and provide guidance to students and parents regarding individual student goals and path to graduation
- Collaborate weekly with WOHS staff or as needed to ensure academic and social success for students
- Understand the master schedule process and work side by side with the ECHS director and principal to schedule students in a variety of different schedules to meet the needs of the college pathway/endorsement
- Assist with coordinating all state assessments required for graduation as well as AP exams, TSI, PLAN, PSAT, ACT, SAT, etc.
Program Management
- Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.
- Educate both college and school staff, students, parents and community about guidance and counseling program/services
- Participates in the ECHS summer bridge program for all students as assigned
- Assist with the development of an advisory curriculum for the ECHS
- Assist with the development of a college going culture by facilitating such activities as college visits, career fairs, guest speakers, college tee-shirt days and the adoption of colleges by each classroom
Communication
- Establish and maintain open channels of communication and professional relationships with students, parents, teachers, principals and other school personnel
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly

- Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required
